Seattle U Law’s Online Programs Prepare Students for a Hot Job Market

by | Feb 28, 2020

Students in Seattle U’s Online Master of Legal Studies (MLS) in Compliance and Risk Management program have plenty of career options when they graduate. According to SmartLawyer.com, some of the hottest jobs for new lawyers and other legal professionals,  are in “alternative legal careers.” Compliance, in particular, is an especially lucrative field.

The blog post, based on research from the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), says that alternative legal careers, in areas such as technology, accounting and banking, and finance fields, were among the most popular for young law students. Technological advances play a key role in helping create new jobs for recent graduates and professionals alike. This is most obvious in the field of cybersecurity. A new area of law focused on data protection has grown in demand with the increase of data security issues.

Other promising pathways include: open-source code compliance, technology company project management, compliance professionals, and banking compliance. Risk management is also a promising field. Check out more alternative legal careers, and the best tech jobs for law graduates.

The MLS in Compliance and Risk Management program is particularly well-suited to prepare students for these new career paths or for advancement in current careers. The flexible, part-time degree has three 14-week terms per year and can be completed within two years. Students can take electives and develop specialized knowledge in one or more of the industries featured in the program healthcare, corporate, financial, and data and cybersecurity.  The degree is also interdisciplinary; students are trained in legal methods, analysis, and communication, which prepares them specifically for leadership roles.
